BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:30 A.M.) – Zero hour has approached the East Ghouta, as several Syrian Arab Army (SAA) units have gathered at a number of axes in this rural region outside of Damascus city.
According to the latest military report from east Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army’s Tiger Forces division has positioned themselves at several axes in the western part of the East Ghouta, while the 4th Mechanized Division and Republican Guard gather in the east.
While some reports indicated that the Syrian Army is planning to retake the entire East Ghouta region, a military source in Damascus stated that the primary objective is to gain enough ground in order to ultimately force the Islamist rebels to kick out Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham from Damascus.
This won’t be an easy task, however, as the Islamist rebels of Faylaq Al-Rahman and Jaysh Al-Islam are well-armed and deeply embedded in the East Ghouta.
The Free Syrian Army’s Al-Rahman Regiment (var. Faylaq Al-Rahman) is considered one of HTS’ closest allies in the East Ghouta and their refusal to kick out the aforementioned jihadist group has tainted each ceasefire agreement.
