Syrian Army soldier places flag atop building in Saqba district (Source: Alikhbaria Syria).

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:35 P.M.) – The Alikhbaria Syria channel has released video footage showing the moment that Syrian Army soldiers hoisted the national flag above the district town of Saqba in Damascus’ East Ghouta region.

The filmed event took place within the hour of Saqba being officially cleared of all rebel elements. The battle for the district, held by militant groups for years, had taken just one day.

Saqba’s fall to the Syrian Army is important for it represents the entry of government forces into the so-called ‘urban heartland’ of insurgent-controlled East Ghouta (the general area itself now shrinking on a daily basis).

Whilst Syrian troops savor their victory in Saqba, clashes still occur in the co-joining district of Kafr Batna which if not seized by government forces today (Sunday) will most likely be taken tomorrow.

God willing one day that flag will unify all of Syria and erase the opposition into the history books. Assad has pulled of the impossible, victory is near for Syria.
