BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – The so-called Islamic State (ISIL) launched a big assault in the western countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate in a bid to reach the strategic city of Al-Mayadeen.

However, the Islamic State’s offensive would not go as planned, thanks in large part to the well-armed troops of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF).

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Army and their allies were able to kill more than 15 Islamic State terrorists, while also destroying at least two technical vehicles.

While ISIS was able to initially slip past the Syrian Army’s positions west of Al-Mayadeen, they would later be spotted and eliminated after a six hour battle.
