BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:35 P.M.) – The U.S. military is planning to build its third military base near the Syrian border, Iraq News reported on Friday.

Citing an official security source from BasNews, Iraq News reported that the third U.S. base will be located inside the Al-Anbar Governorate, which borders Syria’s Deir Ezzor province.

BasNews reported that this third base will be located near the border-city of Al-Qa’im, which is located directly east of the Syrian city of Albukamal.

The Syrian and Iraqi governments are currently working to reopen the highway between Damascus and Baghdad; this new base will be able to monitor this roadway.

The U.S. will be able to monitor all activity between Damascus and Baghdad, including border activities, as they already posses bases along this strategic highway.
