BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 A.M.) – Idlib may be the next face of war in Syria, said United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi during a meeting in the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Friday.

“This is the next big face of the war in Syria and may be very bloody, we hope not, we hope that civilian lives well be spared”, he said, during a meeting with Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Grandi said that the UN is in dialogue with both Lebanon and Russia over the refugee situation in the Syrian region of Idlib, and that “new elements” have been introduced to the discussion.

“The situation is very difficult there, very complicated and that I think is a very big preoccupation for everybody including for Lebanon,” he added.

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

You are right and that guy Filippo Grandi was before Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The UN should have stopped UNRWA long ago. The agency only keeps the Palestine Refugees problem alive. Tongue out.

no s**t, but who are the U.N anyways if not an arm of the zionist terrorists? if they were concerned with civilians then they wouldnt had killed ghaddafi and they wouldve heeded russia’s advice on the syrian situiation namely sergei lavrov’s from the very beginning. they approve war hungry U.S’s actions every time but shun and shame the honest resistance to said war hungry country’s oppressive actions. a shame everyone’s a pawwssy except for iran and russia and china. and as for the muslim Umma; iran is the only line of defense yet most muslims call them khafirs while supporting… Read more »

Maybe You should look up what Filippo Grandi worked in the past. Unlike many other UN officials he does not come from politically biased jobs.

The only thing he did wrong – he was working for UNRWA which should have been closed down 50 years ago.

Pretty naive. The civilans in Idlib have given themselves as human shields and humanitarian aid cash cows to the Muslim Jihad. Just like the Palestinians have done. The all deserve the fate God meads out to them.

But what words do You expect of a man that served served 4 years as Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Careful stern you are letting your kippah slip. So the Palestinians use themselves as human shields, what utter tosh. If you knew anything about the Palestian/Israeli conflict you would quite clearly see that the Palestinians of Gaza are caged within a small geographical area, unable to escape because the fascist state of Israel has fenced them in on one side and shoots to kill anyone trying to leave by sea on the other. Where do you suppose they go when they are bombed indiscriminately by the Nazi state ?Do you think they have options for leaving Gaza everytime they are… Read more »
