BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:55 P.M.) – The Turkish-backed rebels have opened their first supply to the strategic city of ‘Azaz in northern Aleppo after successfully capturing much of the Aleppo Governorate’s border with Turkey.
Led by the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the Turkish-backed rebels managed to seize the last towns under the control of the YPG forces along the Turkish border with the Afrin region this past weekend.
As a result of this advance, the Turkish-backed rebels were able to open their first supply route from the Idlib Governorate to ‘Azaz city.
In addition to opening this imperative supply route, the Turkish-backed rebels have captured more than 23 percent of the Afrin region since launching Operation Olive Branch on January 20th.
French President Emmanuel Macron called on Turkey to adhere to the 30 day ceasefire that was unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council this past weekend; however, the Turkish military ignored his request.
