BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – The Turkish Armed Forces are prepared to reinvade Cyprus “if needed for the lives and security of Turkish Cypriots,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Saturday.

“The entire world is watching our determination. No one should doubt that the heroic Turkish army, which sees [Northern] Cyprus as its homeland, will not hesitate to take the same step it took 45 years ago if needed for the lives and security of the Turkish Cypriots,” state-run Anadolu News Agency quoted Erdoğan as saying.

Erdogan’s comments on the 45th anniversary of the Turkish military’s controversial  invasion of northern Cyprus in 1974.

Today, the island of Cyprus is separated between the southern and northern parts of the country. The northern part of the island is controlled by a Ankara-backed government.

Ach, du warst lange weg, schön dich wieder zu sehen 🙂 +++ “Erdogan is prepared for invasion? ” >>> I ask myself if it’s not for domestic consumption only. We both know the Art.47(2) ofour common constitution. He’d have us all on his back… And he can add Egypt, Israel, probably USA and even likely the Gulf states and Russia… A really indigestible plate. +++ “So is Greece.” >>> And much more : Intl. law, law of the sea… In fact, as Erdog+Melvut took the bet that US wouldn’t boot them out of the F-35 participation, they take the bet… Read more »
