BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 P.M.) – The Turkish military has reportedly begun constructing airstrips and field hospitals around their observation posts in Syria, pro-opposition activists reported via social media.
According to the activists, Turkey has specifically constructed an airstrips and field hospitals in the Tal Al-‘Eis area of southern Aleppo and Tal Toukhan area of east Idlib.
The opposition activists added that the Turkish military is planning to construct airstrips at all 12 of their observation posts in Syria.
Since the Astana Peace Talks in May, Turkey has constructed 12 observation posts across northern Syria in order to maintain security around the rebel front-lines with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
However, the rebel forces have often used these observation posts in northern Syria to launch attacks against the Syrian Arab Army (e.g. northern Hama)
In addition to their 12 approved posts, the Turkish military also construction an illegal observation zone in the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate.
The Syrian Army has issued a formal complaint to the Russian Reconciliation Center about this illegal Turkish military observation post in the Jabal Al-Akrad region of northeast Latakia.
