Forces loyal to the Tripoli-based government took control of the El-Sharara oil field, the largest in the country, on Sunday, according to an aide to a battalion commander.
“I don’t expect any confrontations inside the oil field, as all the venues on its territory are well protected,” said Abdullah Ibrahim Daoud, Assistant to the Commander of the 30th Infantry Battalion.
“Our forces are well equipped, so any infiltration that could lead to clashes inside the oil site is not possible,” he added.
Forces loyal to the eastern-based government last week also reportedly dispatched troops to the plant. Conflicting reports say they too had taken control of the oil field.
