BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:45 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a counter-attack against the so-called Islamic State (ISIL) in the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Saturday, following the terrorist group’s failed offensive in the northern part of the provincial capital.

Units from the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Brigade of the 17th Division and 104th Brigade of the Republican Guard attacked the Islamic State’s positions in the southwestern part of the province, inflicting heavy damage on the terrorist group’s defenses.

Video footage from the southwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor was released Hezbollah’s official media wing, Saturday, following a series of attacks.

In the coming months, the Syrian Arab Army is expected to reach the provincial capital of the Deir Ezzor Governorate, as they attempt to lift the siege on the city once and for all.
