BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:25 P.M.) – Forces of the Syrian Arab Army and allied paramilitaries are gearing up for a Mother of all Battle in eastern Damascus amid a constant and ongoing build up of new troops and heavy equipment as well as the arrival of a top-end commander.

On Friday, Al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood affiliated jihadist militias launched a powerful offensive against the army-held military vehicle depot base in the district of Harasta, partially besieging it but failing to actually capture it.

For almost week now, basically since the jihadist offensive began, the Syrian Army and allied forces have been rushing huge numbers of troops and heavy equipment to east Damascus, still yet however to deliver their much expected counter-blow.

Among some of the many reinforcements still arriving are specialized shock troop battalions of the 9th Armoured Division who will be led by Colonel Nizar Fandi (below).

According to sources exclusive to Al-Masdar News, the Syrian Army troop build-up in eastern Damascus is unprecedented and to this end pro-government forces not only plan on restoring the original front-lines around the vehicle depot base, but also aim to retake all of the Harasta district as well as enter other areas of the capital that have been under militant control since 2012.
