DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:15 P.M.) – Following the liberation of two villages earlier in the day, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) seasoned Tiger Forces capitalized on their momentum by taking control of two additional villages.
With SAA tanks on the roll along the strategic M4 highway en route to Jirah Airbase, government forces seized full control over the villages of Al-Mashrafah and Qaysumah along with the Tall Mahdum hill on Tuesday evening.
Notably, the SAA has now entered the Maskanah Plains and surrounded Jirah Airbase from three flanks. This airport has not been under SAA control since February, 2013.
In 2017 alone, counter-insurgency operations in rural Aleppo have seen the SAA’s elite assault troops liberate nearly 250 villages from the Islamic State.
