BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:20 P.M.) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched the second most airstrikes in Syria after the United States, the Global Coalition said in a new report on Monday.

“The Kingdom ranked second after the United States of America in the number of air strikes carried out within the Global Coalition in (Syria),” the report read.

No further details were released regarding the Saudi military’s participating in the ongoing efforts to eliminate the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) from the region.

Last month, Turkish publications claimed that the Saudi and Emirati ground forces had entered Syria and taken up positions east of the Euphrates.

While these claims were never corroborated by the Global Coalition, the two Gulf nations did send delegates to meet with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Aleppo Governorate city of Kobane (var. ‘Ayn Al-‘Arab).

If that claim is true it is basically meaningless as the entire coalition is largely a PR operation, Australia for example, participated in this coalition for more than 3 years, during that time only a handful of Australian air-strikes were publicised. The Wikipedia article about the Australian operation refers to 54 sorties and two actual airstrikes in ISIS targets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Okra A similar situation pertains to the British and French and other smaller coalition members- this has been an American operation with others offering little more than window dressing. This statement is a transparent and pathetic attempt to rehabilitate the public image… Read more »
