BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:30 A.M.) – The Free Syrian Army (FSA) has formed a new group that will focus on capturing eastern Syria from the “PKK and Assad forces.”
Based on their propaganda footage, this new group dubbed “Eastern Shield Army” will attempt to capture Deir Ezzor, Al-Hasakah, and Al-Raqqa from the Islamic State (ISIL), Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
This new group is likely backed by the Erdogan regime and will have Turkish weapons to achieve their delirious goal of capturing eastern Syria from two of the strongest forces in the country.
While the Syrian Arab Army only has a small presence in the Al-Hasakah Governorate, they are not likely to come under attack from any Turkish-backed groups, unless they cross into the predominately Assyrian and Kurdish city of Al-Qamishli.
The rebels do not have much support in the Al-Hasakah Governorate, so the idea that they could some-how overpower the Kurdish-led SDF units there is quite odd.
