The Saudi Royals’ embrace of extremist Wahhabism may or may not be genuine, but their decadence isn’t an indication that it isn’t. Sexual repression breeds freakiness and there’s no deep tradition of monogamy in that part of the world. It’s not that big a jump from being entertained by a harem to being entertained by whores. How many loudmouth Christian fundies have turned out to be absolute freaks behind closed doors? Wahhabism has been convenient for the House of Saud for over 200 years because it is an instrument of absolute control, just like money and US sponsorship are today.
