German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stated that “there is no legal basis for the actions of the Russian military” in the Azov Sea, at a press conference alongside the Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Thursday in Berlin.
“What we don’t want is the militarization of the conflict. We would want a political process,” Maas added.
He also spoke about the Nordstream II pipeline extension saying that “the withdrawal of German companies from this project would not mean that this gas pipeline would not be built. It would be built by the Russians alone.”
Maas also claimed that the renovation of existing infrastructure in Ukraine would also be a viable alternative should the plans fall through.
