BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:35 P.M.) – Lebanon’s General Security Chief, Major General ‘Abbas Ibrahm, is leading a “highly confidential” meeting with the Islamic State’s (ISIL) leadership near the Syrian border, LBCI TV reported Tuesday, as quoted by Naharnet.
According to LBCI, Ibrahim is representing the Lebanese government on behalf of President Michel ‘Aoun. Ibrahim’s efforts followed a request from President Michel Aoun, LBCI television said.
“The main obstacle in these negotiations is the destination to which the IS militants would leave,” LBCI claimed.
Currently, the Lebanese Army is engaged in a battle with the Islamic State in the Ras Ba’albak region of the Beqa’a Governorate, following a successful joint operation with Hezbollah in the ‘Arsal Barrens.
