BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 A.M.) – The leader of the Lebanese Democratic Party Talal Arslan blasted his political rival Walid Jumblatt on Sunday over the death of a Tawhid Party supporter in the Chouf District town of Jahlieh.

In a series of angry tweets, Minister Arslan criticized the parties responsible for sending the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) to Jahlieh, which later led to the death of Mohammad Bou Diab in Jahlieh.

“I congratulate the Intelligence Branch on this shameful bravado that took place yesterday in Jahliyeh and I congratulate the person who issued the absurd order. What a pitiful and disgusting farce,” Arslan tweeted on Sunday.

The Lebanese Democratic Party leader then shifted his attention to his rival Jumblatt, who he snarkingly ‘congratulated’ for failing to defend Mount Lebanon.

“I also congratulate Walid Jumblatt on the violation of Mount Lebanon and its villages under the slogan of enforcing the law in a selective manner,” Arslan said.

“Our families and honor in Mount Lebanon cannot be violated by anyone and the state must shoulder its responsibilities,” Arslan told Al-Mayadeen TV.

“If Walid Jumblatt is the protector of Mount Lebanon, then we can only mourn Mount Lebanon’s security,” he added.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
