BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:40 P.M.) – The Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) are not planning to withdraw from the Syrian border, despite repeated threats from the Turkish military about an impending military operation east of the Euphrates.
According to state-owned Anadolu Agency, the Turkish military drones have captured footage of the YPG forces digging trenches along the Syrian-Turkish border.
The Turkish drone footage was allegedly taken from the border-towns of Kobane (var. ‘Ayn Al-‘Arab) and Tal Al-Abyad, which are both currently under the administration of the Kurdish-led Democratic Union Party (PYD).
The PYD is the political wing of the People’s Protection Units (YPG); Turkey considers both entities to be affiliates of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), who fought a long war against the Turkish Armed Forces.
