On February 10, the Israeli army said that its helicopter had intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria and that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) had struck Iranian targets in Syria.

The Israeli moves prompted a response fire from the Syrian air defense systems downing the Israeli F-16 aircraft. Both crew members – a pilot and navigator – managed to eject before the plane crashed in northern Israel.

“The crew made a professional error, preferring to carry out the task instead of adequately defending themselves. Their actions did not follow the standard instructions for actions under enemy fire,” the document, prepared by the IAF commission, read.

The document’s authors stressed that the aircraft crew had been timely informed about the threat. At the same time, the decision of the crew to abandon the jet was recognized to be correct.

According to the Israeli forces, it is the first Israeli warplane that was lost after being fired from the ground since 1982.

The downed jet was participating in strikes on an airbase in Syria’s Palmyra, from where, according to the Israeli military, an Iranian drone was launched entering Israel’s airspace. In the second wave of the attack, the Israeli forces struck 12 targets in Syria, including Syrian air defense batteries and Iranian military facilities.

the most important thing is, that they have been shot down by S200.
And F35 was damaged by a bird in the same area.

“Their actions did not follow the standard instructions for actions under enemy fire”

Brave strut to show confidence in its abilities to start proxy wars and there be no consequences?

You say its due to inadequate abilities to perform under enemy fire whether pilot error or overwhelming defense/offence could be just one of those consequences?

The next incursion attempt may result in consequences to the facilities that launched an attack and resources used and then imagination…..?

Proxy war was started by Saudi-Barbaria, Qatar, Turkey with help from CIA and MI6.
The fact is that Assad refused the transit of the planned Qatar-KSA-Qatar gas pipeline, making ’em losing bilions.
Israel is no part in this business.
In fact, the new found Cyprus/Israel undersea gasfields even compete this project, so… It’s REALLY not the Israeli interest having Assad to go! They even said publicly many times, even Meir Dagan, the most bad-a*s Mossad boss publicly stated it in 2016.
It’s pitiful how racists are deluded by their irrationality and get busted telling lies to back their craziness.

Whatta stupid Israelis logic.. Iranian drone flew into occupied Golan Heights (by Israel), so Israel send jets deep into Syrian territory to destroy from where drone was sent. OK… That mean Syria need to bombard airfield from where Israelis sent those F16 jets, because they pose threats to its territory sovereignty.

Golan WAS occupied by Syria who took it from Israel in 1948 then was expelled in 1967. Golan was in Brit Mandate of JEWISH PALESTINE, not in French Mandate of Syria. Same lies are told about Judea-Samaria (renamed Waste-Bank by Arabs as they don’t want it to be said they occupy Judea, and Samaria is also in the Bible) : This wasn’t ARAB PALESTINE (renamed Kingdom of Jordan), this was JEWISH PALESTINE, so it is for Gaza! So let Arab Palestinians go to ARAB PALESTINE and let Syrians out of Golan Heights, it’s NOT their lands! Syrians would better take… Read more »

There are no masters of human kind. This is bullshit spread by Nazis, Islamists and Nazislamists. Jews are not butthurt, they simply analyse why the F-16 was downed, as any air force does and as they’re a democracy, they publish the results of the investigation. S-200 is hypersonic (2.5km/s), if you fly too close from a battery, your ECM has not enough time to react to avoid being hit, F-16 entered the red-zone and got hit. Even stealth aircraft like Su-57, Rafale, B-2 or Su-35 have such red zones, even if these are tinier. Israelis lost ZERO F-16 to SAM… Read more »

Poor pilots. They went through traumatic experience only to be blamed for shotdown by their government. Scapegoats by definition…

They had orders to not enter the red-zone of the SAM battery. Never intended the preparation of a mission? Well, I can’t tell for Israeli ones but I suppose it’s petty close to ours. We have 3D mapping and you see red bubbles : these are no fly zones. These are entered in your flight computer, you’re not supposed to enter these. Moreover, you have standoff weapons allowing you to carry on the mission. Maybe such standoff weapons were intercepted by Pantsir (?) as its the role of this asset and pilot decided to make a run with the gun?… Read more »

This is realism! Jet fighters are precious assets and extremely expensive. F-16I is highly customised by Elbit, IAI and Rafael, systems installed cost far much than the airframe.
