BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:45 P.M.) – Israel is making military preparations for a possible confrontation with Iran, Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz stated on Tuesday.
During the Herzliya Conference 2019, Katz said that Iran may stumble out of the “gray zone” of contained confrontation and engage in an all-out war with Israel, Gulf Arab states, and the United States.
“It should be taken into account that mistaken calculations by the (Iranian) regime … are liable to bring about a shift from the ‘gray zone’ to the ‘red zone’ – that is, a military conflagration,” Katz stated.
“We must be prepared for this, and thus the State of Israel continues to devote itself to building up its military might for the event that it will have to respond to escalation scenarios.”
Following Katz’s comments, an Iranian lawmaker said Israel would be “destroyed in 30 minutes” if a war were to break out.
Katz later told Israeli Army Radio that “Iran has no chance in this war,” adding “therefore there is an opportunity there, through tough economic pressure and comprehensive sanctions, to prevent war, to achieve the objectives without war.”
