BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:20 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) is in serious trouble in the western countryside of Palmyra, as they find themselves mass retreating from several sites they firmly controlled in January.
Led by the Russian-trained 5th Legion and ISIL Hunters, the Syrian Arab Army continued their assault northeast of the Abu Qila Dam on Thursday, killing and wounding a number of terrorists in the process of their advance.
Reports from field journalists embedded in west Palmyra indicate the Syrian Arab Army is currently advancing at the Al-Qataar Mountains; however, it is still too early to tell if they will liberate this site today.
At the same time, the Islamic State is attempting to regain the initiative near the Damascus-Homs border; their forces are currently attacking the Syrian Arab Army at the Ibn ‘Arsan Mountains.
The Syrian Arab Army is attempting to fight their way back to the Al-Sha’er Mountains in northeast Homs; if successful, they will have secured the strategic T-4 Military Airbase for the first time in two years.
