BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 A.M.) – Iraq’s Hashd Al-Shaabi forces have heavily reinforced the Syrian border region after the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS) scored a new advance in the Deir Ezzor province.

According to a military source, Hashd Al-Shaabi moved several units to the Syrian border in order to protect the Iraqi provinces of Nineveh and Al-Anbar.

In addition to bolstering their presence along the border, Hashd Al-Shaabi has launched a security operation to clear the last remnants of the Islamic State in the Al-Anbar Governorate.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi stated on Sunday that several terrorist sleeper cells are active across several parts of the Al-Anbar and Nineveh provinces.

Abdul-Mahdi said that the Iraqi forces will completely clear these areas and eliminate any pockets of resistance.
