BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:45 A.M.) – The Iraqi military will coordinate with the Syrian government forces to secure the border between the two countries, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-‘Abadi said during press conference on Tuesday.

‘Abadi added that the Iraqi military will not sit idly and allow fleeing Islamic State (ISIL) militants to cross into Syria.

However, the Iraqi Premier asserted during the press conference that his government has no intention of entering the six year long Syrian War, despite improving relations with their counterparts in Damascus.

The Iraqi Armed Forces are on the verge of liberating the Islamic State’s capital city in Iraq after launching their Mosul offensive earlier this year.

His comments came eight days after paramilitary fighters, consisting of some 40 groups, reached the Syrian border in the north in an attempt to block ISIL from crossing the common border.
