BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:30 P.M.) – The Iraqi armed forces have mass mobilized along the Syrian border to block Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) terrorists that are attempting to evade capture in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

According to a recent statement from the Iraqi Defense Ministry, their military sent reinforcements to the western region of the Al-Anbar Governorate in order to secure the vast border region with Syria.

In particular, the Iraqi Defense Ministry said that they sent reinforcements from their 37th Infantry Brigade of the 9th Armored Division to the border city of Al-Qa’im.

“The aim is the total protection of the Iraq-Syria border to prevent the infiltration of Daesh terrorist gangs onto Iraqi soil,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Concerning the border strip, all military sectors are in a position of total readiness. All weapons, machinations and vehicles are available as a precaution against some Daesh militants who have run away to cross or sneak into Iraq,” a brigadier general of the Jazira Operations Command said in a video released by the Defense Ministry on Tuesday.

“The heroes of the second division of infantry brigade 27 continue fortifying and solidifying the observation points,” an army colonel added.

Currently, the Islamic State is confined to a few hundred yards of territory in the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.
