(IRNA) The Intelligence Ministry in a statement on Saturday said that members of a terror group affiliated to Daesh intended to conduct terrorist activities in central provinces and religious cities were detained during operations conducted by the intelligence forces.
The statement reads, on the eve of the Eid al-Fitr and concurrent with the World Quds Day, security forces managed to arrest members of a Daesh-affiliated group who intended to commit acts of terror in central provinces and religious cities before they could take any move and seized their explosives and suicide equipment during a series of operations.
Equipment seized from the terrorist group included three Klashnikovs, night vision camera, three suicide belts, a large number of bullets, wireless and other technical tools used in building bombs, the statement said.
On June 7, terrorists attacked Iran’s parliament and the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, killing 18 people. The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility.
Since the twin assaults, security forces have stepped up operations to curb terror activities across the country, particularly in the border regions, arresting and killing dozens of militants and seizing large amounts of weapons and explosives.
