BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:10 P.M.) – According to reports, at least two prison guards were injured by an inmate in Borgo Prison on the island of Corsica on Friday, with attacker reportedly shouting ‘Allah Akbar.’
Both of the injured have been hospitalised but have not sustained life-threatening wounds.
There are no reports regarding the type of weapon used.
The footage shows people crowding in front of the prison. There are reports that the Minister of Justice is set to visit the prison later in the day.
The incident happened days after a similar attack was committed by a former Al-Qaeda member, 51-year-old Christian Ganczarski.
Ganczarski used scissors and blade to injure guards at Vendin-le-Vieil.
Protests by the Vendin-le-Vieil prison guards following the incident have sparked similar riots in prisons across the country including Marseille and Lyon, with guards outraged by the lack of protection they receive while dealing with inmates.
