DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:45 P.M.) – The death toll continues to pile up on both sides in Damascus as Islamist opposition factions and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) battle it out for control of the capital’s eastern suburbs.

Failaq Al-Rahman, a group loosely tied to the Free Syrian Army (FSA), published a string of photos and brief videos today showing its militants opening fire on the SAA in the embattled neighborhood of Ayn Tarma on Sunday:

Among the weapons used by Failaq Al-Rahman were machine-guns, snipers, hell cannons, guided anti-tank missiles and rocket launchers:

According to the aforementioned FSA group, 7 SAA soldiers were killed on Monday while one was forced to surrender after being heavily injured.

In response, the SAA’s 4th Mechanized Division – heavily assisted by the 105th and 106th Brigades of the Republican Guard – intensified their shelling of Ayn Tarma, Douma, Zamalka and Jobar. Airstrikes were also called in to hammer insurgent-held villages in the East Ghouta, some of which are controlled by Jaish Al-Islam and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS).

What a selfish and incompetent idea by the central command, and the leadership by extension, to keep ordering 100`s of young men to their deaths and disfigurement in ayn-tarma and all for nothing. At least 300 saa have been kia and 700 wia, for less than 1% of its territory. The fact command is continuing the same tactics is proof enough that they do not give a flying fuk about their own men. The militants are not only superbly dug in, with death zones created for advancing saa, but aid and supplies keep flowing into east Ghouta, which is the… Read more »

The losses in Jobar/Ayn Tarma are too enormous, for almost nothing to show in return.
Continuing these tactics is precisely what the enemy wants.
Instead, saa should start digging tunnels to bring in he to destroy militants positions from below; small teams of NV equipped commandos should infiltrate at night.
EW to be used to intercept and jam enemy communications.
Concrete piercing 125 mm rounds should be requested from Ru to be utilized by T-72’s.
And there should be 10 times more sniper teams utilized.
