BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:50 P.M.) – The first Syrian-made sniper rifle has entered military service in Syria, the Syrian Military Capabilities Facebook page reported this past weekend.

According to the SMC report, the newly-made Golan S-01 sniper rifle has proven effective in various situations.

The new sniper specifications are as followed:

Feed: Manual one shot
Range: 1600 meters
Bullet Caliber: 12.7mm
Envelope Length: 108mm
Projectile Speed: 820 m/sec
Sniper Length: 1470mm
Lining Length: 915mm
Height: 250mm
Overall Weight: 13.5kg

This sniper rifle is allegedly modeled after the Austrian-made Steyr HS.50 rifle. This new rifle should increase the Syrian military’s sniper capabilities by 100 meters.

Steyr HS .50 :

Iran produces an unlicensed copy under the name AM-50 Sayyad which is strangely widely used by ISIS
Seems that Syria produces an unlicensed copy too now.
Steyr should consider suing both at the WTO.
