BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:40 A.M.) – The leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu stated on Sunday that his political party wants to strengthen Turkey’s ties with the Syrian government, despite several years of turmoil with Damascus.
“After stability is ensured in Syria and non-state actors are disarmed, we will support a political solution where the Syrian people will be able to make decisions on their own,” Kilicdaroglu stated.
Kilicdaroglu believes that a new coalition should be created between Iran, Syria, Iraq, and Turkey in order tackle region issues and defeat terrorism.
The Turkish opposition leader believes that the world should respect Syria’s territorial integrity and that if they win the upcoming election, they will make an effort to restore ties with Damascus.
Turkey suspended diplomatic ties with Syria in 2012, prompting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to take a harsh stance against his Syrian counterpart Bashar Al-Assad.
