BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:30 A.M.) – Five police officers were shot dead at an Egyptian security checkpoint in the al-Badrasheen area of Giza province, on Friday, 30 km (20 miles) south of Cairo.

Three gunmen are reported to have opened fire on the police officers, hurling petrol bombs before escaping on motorbikes.

Hours after the murder of the officers, two German tourists were killed and four others injured in a stabbing attack in the resort of Hurghada in Egypt’s Sinai. Egypt remains in conflict with the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS) active in the Sinai peninsula.
