China urged the U.S. to stop provocative actions that violate its sovereignty and constitute a threat to China’s national security, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Sunday.
Earlier, the Chinese Ministry of Defense confirmed that the destroyer USS Higgins and the USS Antietam guided-missile cruiser took place on Sunday 12 nautical miles from the disputed Parasel Islands (Sina-whale) in the South China Sea, which China considers its own.
“The Chinese side has expressed sharp dissatisfaction and resolute protest to the American side, and we urge the American side to immediately stop such provocative actions that undermine sovereignty and threaten China’s national security,” Lu Kahn said in a published statement.
The representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that the PRC will continue taking all necessary measures to uphold its sovereignty and its security.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of China accused the American ships of unauthorized intrusion into the territorial waters of the PRC, calling their actions an unceremonious violation of the country’s territorial sovereignty and norms of international law.
