DAMASCUS, SYRIA (1:55 P.M.) – After storming Taibat Al-Imam from two axes this morning, the elite assault troops of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) swept through the town, while engaging in heavy firefights with Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS).
As the Tiger Forces, alongside two brigades of the 4th division, broke through the first jihadist defensive line, HTS launched a suicide bomber at the advancing government units as mines and sniper nests proved unable to repel the overwhelming SAA thrust.
The SVBIED (suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device) was nevertheless blown apart before reaching its designated target as hundreds of seasoned Syrian troops spearheaded a massive counter-offensive, killing dozens of HTS militants and expelling the Al-Qaeda linked faction from Taibat Al-Imam by noon.
Consequently, the SAA has scored a major strategic victory in rural Hama. Taibat Al-Imam has not been under government control since rebel forces overran it back in August, 2016.
On Monday, the Tiger Forces entered Taibat Al-Imam for the first time this year but were temporarily repelled in what proved to be initial probing attacks, exploring poorly defended points, followed by heavy Russian aerial bombardment.
