BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:57 A.M.) – At some point on late Monday night, Russian combat aircraft bombed encircled rebel forces in the east Qalamoun mountains who were preparing for a major assault against the Syrian Army.
According to sources at Muraselon News, Russian airpower struck militant groups in the areas of Ar-Rahibyah and Petra, destroying several machine gun armed pickup tricks and leaving an unspecified number of rebel fighters dead and wounded.
The armed rebel groups – one of them identified as the Abdo Martyrs Brigade – were readying for an attacking against Syrian forces near the Ad-Dumayr military airport (east of the city of Ad-Dumayr).
Rebel sources confirm that militant forces holding out in the east Qalamoun mountains were rallying troops and equipment for a assault against Syrian Army positions.
All sources report that the pretext for the mobilization of militant groups in east Qalamoun was the Syrian Army’s new offensive against allied rebel factions across the East Ghouta region of Damascus.
