BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:40 P.M.) – The Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced on Friday that their warships would be entering the Atlantic Ocean waters for five-month-long mission.

Deputy Chief of Navy Force of the Iranian Army announced that their naval fleet will enter the Atlantic Ocean in early 2019 for a five-month-long voyage.

Iranian Admiral Touraj Hasnai Moqaddam told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Friday that the trip will be conducted in accordance with the order of the hierarchy of command.

“The Atlantic Ocean is a long route, and it is likely that this Iranian mission would take five months to complete,” he said.

The Iranian ship that will be leading this voyage is the Sahand Destroyer, the admiral stated.

Sahand, the most advanced destroyer of Iran, joined the latter’s naval fleed in Bandar Abbas on December 1st.

This four-engine destroyer has been designed and made more advanced than its predecessor, Jamaran destroyer, with radar-evading capabilities.

The news of the Iranian Navy entering the Atlantic waters this year comes just a month after the Islamic Republic announced that they were looking to expand their maritime presence across the world.
